Visualizing Self-Awareness

If you watched my recent video blog series, you already know Self-Awareness is the first step toward Intraconnection. Why? Because if you want to make a change in your life, you must first become clear on what is happening internally. For example, if you want to mend a conflict with a loved one, you must Go Within yourself and observe what is happening. How do you behave when you are in conflict with this person? What sensations do you feel in your body? What thoughts are running through your head? What belief(s) are you holding about this person? What belief(s) are you holding about yourself? Gently and compassionately exploring these questions can help you gain more clarity on your role in the situation. It’s as if you are putting glasses on for the first time, not realizing you needed them in the first place.

Choosing Self-Awareness comes with responsibility, for it is the opposite of denial. When you are in denial of yourself and your role in the world, you are choosing to remain the victim. Becoming Self-Aware takes time and practice. It’s like learning a new language and will feel foreign at first.

Practice Tip: Start by bringing awareness to your 5 senses. When you sit down for breakfast in the morning, slow down and pay attention to the details. Feel the warmth of your coffee cup. Breathe in the aromas. Notice the color and textures of your food, of the surface you are eating on. Feel the weight of your body in the chair. Listen to the sounds around you. When you take your first bite, notice and describe the taste. Continue practicing this as you go through your daily routines! Remember to write everything down in your Intra-Journal. Writing down what you experience in the present moment will help reinforce your awareness.

Below are some images I created to express what Self-Awareness feels like. Take some time to visualize how they might apply to you.

How do these images speak to you? What thoughts/feelings/emotions come up? Please comment below and share your thoughts!
